EllerS Coffee recently participated in the AteG Senar 2024 Specialty Coffee Quality Contest, held in Varginha, Minas Gerais. The event brought together 17 Senar instructors responsible for evaluating approximately 2,100 samples of arabica and conilon coffee. The contest aims to select the best coffees from the region for the next stage, which will take place in November. The finalists will then compete at SIC 2024 (International Coffee Week), where the top coffees from each region will be awarded a quality seal.
Maria Paula, head of the Quality department at EllerS Coffee, participated in the event and highlighted the importance of the experience. “It was a unique opportunity to improve my cupping, roasting, and coffee grading skills. The interaction with Senar instructors was extremely enriching, and I gained knowledge that will be valuable for our work at EllerS Coffee,” said Maria Paula.
The evaluation process was conducted with rigor, with all instructors scoring the samples according to technical criteria of sensory analysis and grain quality. Some coffees scored as high as 90 points, demonstrating the high level of quality present in the contest. According to Maria Paula, events like these are crucial for promoting excellence in specialty coffee production and reinforcing the role of Brazilian coffees in the international market.
One of the aspects that most impressed Maria Paula was the simplicity and generosity of the instructors. “They were very patient in teaching me various techniques and shared their experiences. This collaborative environment is something that stood out to me and reinforces the value of such initiatives for professional development and the quality of the coffees we offer,” Maria Paula noted.
