The conilon coffee scenario highlights Brazil's potential to lead the global market, driven by technological advancements and favorable climatic conditions. Currently, Brazil has the potential to surpass Vietnam in production, particularly given the climatic adversities faced by the Asian country. The combination of more productive and resilient clones, along with a greater number of trees per hectare, strengthens the prospect that Brazil could achieve this position in the near future, possibly in the 2026/27 or 2027/28 harvests. However, the realization of this scenario depends on favorable climatic conditions, a factor that has been uncertain.
Another essential aspect mentioned is the growing quality of Brazilian robusta coffee. With a significantly better quality level than a decade ago, Brazil is not only increasing its production but also improving the quality of its beans. This is crucial for gaining ground in demanding international markets, especially as the demand for quality coffees also increases.
The importance of new cultivation areas in southern Bahia, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Goiás is also highlighted as a determining factor for the advancement of conilon production in Brazil. Studies in these regions indicate that more resistant and productive varieties can be developed, further contributing to production growth. Mechanization of the harvest and labor efficiency are also critical aspects to be considered for Brazil to achieve and sustain leadership in the global conilon coffee market.
